Measure Your Face, WHY?

Identifying your face shape of course.

Measuring your face can be beneficial for several reasons, including:

  1. Identifying your face shape: Knowing your face shape is crucial for selecting hairstyles, makeup application techniques, and even sunglasses that complement your features. Different face shapes have different proportions and angles, and understanding yours can help you choose styles that accentuate your best features and create a more balanced overall look.
  2. Optimizing makeup application: Makeup techniques differ depending on face shape. For instance, if you have a round face, contouring can help create the illusion of a slimmer jawline, while highlighting can add definition to the cheekbones. Conversely, for an oval face, subtle contouring and highlighting can enhance the natural shape.
  3. Choosing flattering hairstyles: Hairstyles should complement your face shape to create a harmonious look. For example, a long, layered hairstyle can balance a round face, while a blunt bob can add definition to an oval face. Experimenting with different styles can help you find the ones that flatter your features.
  4. Selecting appropriate eyewear: Glasses and sunglasses can accentuate or detract from your facial features. Understanding your face shape can help you choose frames that harmonize with your proportions. For example, if you have a wide face, oversized frames can make it appear even wider, while narrow frames can add balance.
  5. Tracking facial changes: Regularly measuring your face can help you monitor changes in your facial structure over time, such as weight loss or gain, muscle development, or natural aging. This can be particularly helpful for individuals who follow fitness or cosmetic treatments.

In summary, measuring your face can provide valuable insights into your facial proportions and guide you towards styles and techniques that flatter your unique features. It’s a simple yet effective way to enhance your overall appearance and feel more confident in your skin.

To determine the shape of your face, start with these simple steps:

  • 1. Grab a flexible tape measure (the kind used by a tailor), a notebook and a pen.
  • 2. Pull your hair away from your face and look directly into a mirror.
  • 3. Measure your forehead across the widest part (this is usually around halfway between
your eyebrows and your hairline) and write down the measurement.
  • 4. Measure your cheekbones by placing the tape measure across the pointiest part, just below
the outer corner of each eye.
  • 5. Measure your jawline from the tip of your chin to the point below your ear and multiply
this number by two to get your full jawline length.
  • 6. Measure the length of your face by running the tape measure from the center of your hairline
to the tip of your chin.
  • Conclusion:
  • If your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are all about the same width, you have a square face shape.
  • If your forehead is narrower than your cheekbones and jawline, you have a heart-shaped face shape.
  • If your forehead is wider than your cheekbones but narrower than your jawline, you have a diamond-shaped face shape.
  • If your forehead and cheekbones are the same width but your jawline is significantly narrower, you have an oval face shape.
  • If your forehead and chin are about the same width but your cheekbones are narrower, you have a round face shape.
  • If your face is significantly longer than it is wide, you have a rectangular face shape.
  • Remember, these are general guidelines, and your face shape may not perfectly fit into one category. You may have a combination of features, which is perfectly normal. The main goal is to identify the overall proportions and angles of your facial structure to find styles that complement your unique features.
